Journey 1 — Relationship with You
Your relationship with yourself is just as important as your relationships with others.
Focusing on You
Sometimes it’s easier to be kind to others than to be kind to ourselves.
Does a voice in your head say things about you that you would never say to others? “I’m so stupid!” “I look so old and fat.” My relationship with myself has always been the hardest of all so I can relate!
I can teach you how to disarm that mean inner voice.
I still have an inner critic living in my head, but now I am much better at using its voice effectively. The inner critic exists to try to protect us from social rejection or other harm; when it says “don’t jump off that cliff without knowing how shallow the water below is,” it is serving a useful role. But if it tells me I am an idiot for even considering it, it’s time to thank it for its attempt to protect me but tell it that I am a smart person with good judgement—and to really believe this!
You deserve your own love!
You are one-of-a-kind and precious and worthwhile. There has never been someone just like you alive before! You have stories to tell and a song to sing that are uniquely your own. You can learn to untangle any ropes that bind you up inside and prevent you from love and accepting yourself fully.
